Tampa Bay Rowdies Soccer

Chad Cathers 50 of Pinellas County attended the Tampa Bay Rowdies final home game of the 2019 season on Saturday October 12.

Chad says “it is cool, this is my first time attending a professional soccer game. You couldn’t ask for a better day for a soccer game, the weather is gorgeous.  Chrissie and I were fortunate to be invited by a friend whom had sideline reserved tickets.”  We have good seats he says. It’s not like hockey though, we probably won’t see fighting. But, it’s cool, he says.

Having played barnyard soccer, Cathers says the Rowdies maintained great ball control throughout the first half. He says, “I may have just become a soccer fan.” I enjoyed the game, a delicious sandwich called shroom portabella from a food truck and I am impressed with the community representation from the Rowdies.” It was cool to see the youth walk onto the field with the players immediately before the game started and to see them lined up along the sidelines. It’s nice to see an organization that is committed to their community.

Unbeknownst to me, it was Pinellas County School night. The kids appeared to be enjoying the spotlight, says Cathers.

According the Tampa Bay Rowdies website, The Tampa Bay Rowdies Network is an affiliation program between Youth Soccer Clubs, Leagues, Associations, Community Based Programs (CBOs) and the Rowdies. It is designed to provide exclusive growth opportunities to the Members and access to Rowdies’ players, staff, facilities, and more.

The Rowdies ended up tying the game 1:1. I will look forward to attending another match in the future.

As mentioned in an article by Science Daily, Soccer improves health, fitness and social abilities. “Soccer is a pleasurable team sport that provides an all-round fitness and can be used as treatment for lifestyle-related diseases. Men worry less when playing soccer than when running. Women’s soccer creates we-stories and helps women stay active.”

Lastly, Cathers says, “everyone that I was in attendance with at the game can’t wait until next year’s season to see what the rowdies will bring.”

Looking for something to do? Make a visit to the local Zoo. On Saturday March 6, 2021 I visited the Lowry Park Zoo located in Tampa FL. It was fascinating watching the primates interacting, hearing the tiger roaring, observing the bears playing and enjoying the flamingos chattering.

Making it in Crafting Re-Threads Foxy Style

Video Interview Re-Threads Foxy Style with Erin Fox Dec 2020 by Chantae Hendrix

November 16, 2019, at the Clermont Candy Cane Lane Craft & Gift Show, in Clermont FL, Erin Fox owner of re-Threads: Foxy Style showcases some of her talents in woodworking design. The entire family was on hand in support of re-Threads Foxy Style.

The Craft & Gift Show is one of many events hosted by the Clermont Downtown Partnerships designed for community enjoyment. There were plenty of crafts and vendors on hand to accommodate the crowd. The next event First Friday Food Truck & Music on Montrose is scheduled for Jan 3, 2020.

Erin designs signs with quotes, images and or sayings bound to appeal and resonate with many people. What makes her product unique, is that the platforms used, consist of aged and recycled wood from used pallets.

“On average, NIH receives the following for the value of recyclables on a monthly basis:”

Material Revenue
Cardboard $ 2,000
Mixed Paper  $500
Scrap Metal  $4,000
Wood Pallets  $1,400

Erin says she learned the skill at a young age. Erin says when she was attending college, her mom ran a similar business called re-Threads. It was at the passing of her mother that Erin then decided to carry on the legacy and run a similar business under her own business name.

As a wife and mother of two children, through creativity, Fox found a way to leverage her talents, and maximize her time with family, by establishing this self-run business.  She is passionate about what she does and enjoys the interaction with the patrons that visit her booth. Erin says, “running this business allows me to be there for my daughters more and,” and “it brings me great satisfaction when people express how what is displayed on the signs resonates with them.”

Just recently moved here and now a resident of Florida, Fox and Family are gradually establishing their footprint.  Fox had her booth with the signs for sale at the Clermont Harvest Festival in October and at the Lakeridge Winery Open House in November. Fox says, her booth took second place in the best booth contests.  Erin says, Re-Threads Foxy style will have product on display for sale next weekend November 23, 24 at the Longwood Arts & Crafts Festival in Longwood FL.

Growing up, my Dad, whom was a former U.S. Marine and a now a retired skilled Bricklayer Mason, would often say, “Learn a skill or trade and have a passion for what you do.”

According to a Facility Maintenance Manager with over 22 years of experience in automation engineering and industrial maintenance, “Nowadays, the workforce is lacking in skilled laborers,” says Alan Nichols.  “Sadly, the demand is high, but the talent pool is limited, he says.”

Watch the video to learn how a student led high school robotics team is helping to build skills for themselves, along with mentoring elementary and middle school children to help prepare for future careers in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and more.
